Wellsford School Special Needs Modifications

Project Outline
  • client:Ministry of Education
  • consultants:Adams Architects
  • referee:Ministry of Education – Bryan Hagan
  • project value:550,000.00
  • construction period:19 weeks starting July 2018

This project was an extensive refurbishment to two neighbouring schools and included a combination of bathroom modifications to a Special Needs unit to create a High Dependency facility, along with; access modifications to pathways, entranceways, door access, complex ramps with handrails, new veranda roofs to cover the toilet entrance and extensive channel drain alterations throughout the school.

In the school holidays, we were able to widen narrow doors with new aluminium joinery to minimise disruption during school term time.

The works were spread around the entire school with lots of separate work areas and largely completed during term time which meant that effective safety procedures were required at all times. As work was completed around the school, new ramps, decks, and pathways were progressively handed over for the school to start using them.

This project was run concurrently with similar work at Rodney College next door by our same site team.

The project was run smoothly and the school experienced little disruption and were very happy with the result.
